from party life to sober living
I'm Todd Kinney
I’m a dedicated attorney residing in Omaha, NE, with my wonderful wife, four incredible kids, and a pair of mischievous wiener dogs. Beyond the courtroom, you’ll find me teeing off on the golf course, exploring new destinations, and passionately cheering for my Iowa Hawkeyes.
Life hasn’t always been the way it is today. In fact, there was a time when I embraced the title of the “life-of-the-party” guy, reveling in the thrill of the moment. Yet, beneath the surface, I grappled with a complicated relationship with alcohol. It was a love-hate dynamic that left me questioning.
For six years, I embarked on a journey of self-discovery, experimenting with every technique to find balance. While some approaches offered respite, they were fleeting. The tug-of-war grew tiresome.
By 2019, I was growing weary of the constant back-and-forth. The negotiations, the obsession, the torment, the shame, the regret – it was all too much. That autumn, a whispered conversation with my wife became the final push I needed. It marked the culmination of a series of moments, both monumental and modest, that led me to a pivotal choice: to bid farewell to alcohol.
Letting go was a whirlwind. I anticipated a lackluster existence without my former companion, fearing I’d be confined to a life deemed boring by societal standards. Little did I know, sobriety would unfurl as an unforeseen adventure. Here I stand here, 4 years sober.
Freed from the clutches of alcohol, I unearthed a world of depth and meaning previously foreign to me – a profound connection, a newfound contentment, and an unending wellspring of gratitude. The clarity and peace I discovered were game-changers. Sobriety, it turned out, wasn’t a loss, but an incredible gain. A new way of living that far surpassed anything alcohol ever offered.
“I Didn’t Believe It Either” chronicles my unfiltered, candid, and occasionally humorous odyssey, as I bid adieu to the one thing I once believed indispensable. It stands as a testament to the fact that sobriety isn’t just a better path; it’s the best path I’ve ever walked.
Thank you for joining me on this journey. Together, let’s embrace life’s boundless possibilities, one sober step at a time.
Here’s to clarity and a future filled with promise.
